Q.
How do I use FTP?
A.
Questions on using FTP to publish your site? It's pretty simple!
FTP allows you to transfer files from your computer to a TFBnet webserver,
for the world to see! Once you send the files across, they will
be available on the Internet. Be sure to remember that filenames
ARE case-sensative. Below is a step by step process for using
WS_FTP to upload
your personal website.
1. Open WS_FTP and click on the New
button to create a new site profile:

Once all that info is filled in you can
hit the okay button to connect you to your site. Once connected you
should see in the right hand frame three folders: MailDir, mail, and
wwwpage (NOTE: you might not see the mail folder) Double click on
the wwwpage folder. This is where all your website files will be
placed. One the left hand side you will see file located on your
computer. Change directories on the left hand pane till you fine
your website files. Highlight the files you want to send to your
webspace then hit the arrow pointing to the right in the middle of the
WS_FTP window. That will start the transfer of your files to the
wwwpage folder on the server.
Q.
Where do I put my Web Page files?
A.
Your HTML and other Personal Web Page related files should be placed into
your wwwpage directory located in your user
directory on www.tfb.com (ie. ~your_user_name/wwwpage).
A great program for publishing your website is WS_FTP, which can be found
at http://www.ipswitch.com.
Q. When entering my home page URL, my Web Page
doesn't show up.
A.
If you enter your URL (ie. www.tfb.com/~your_user_name )
and can't see your newly uploaded page, then you need to check out a couple
of things. Make
sure that your home page is named index.html. Your
index.html file should be in your wwwpage directory (ie.~your_user_name/wwwpage
) Your index.html file
should also be in all lower case letters.
